Gladys Lopez-Acevedo is a Lead Economist and a Global Lead at the World Bank working in South Asia, Middle East, and North Africa Regions in the areas of Trade, Conflict, Labor Markets, Poverty, and Gender. Gladys' work includes “Exports to Jobs: Boosting the Gains from Trade in South Asia”; “Entangled: Localized Effects of Exports on Earnings and Employment in South Asia”; “Stitches to Riches?: Apparel Employment, Trade, and Development in South Asia; South Asia’s Turn: Policies to Boost Competitiveness and Create the Next Export Powerhouse; “Conflict and Poverty in Afghanistan’s Transition” and “Conflict and Private Sector Development in Afghanistan”; Morocco's Jobs Analysis; Algeria's Subsidies Reform. Gladys is a Research Fellow in Global Knowledge Institutions such as LACEA (Latin America Association of Economists), 3.I.E (Impact Evaluation Network), and I.Z.A (Institute of Labor Economics). She is also a Research Fellow in the Mexican National System of Researches (S.N.I). Prior to joining the World Bank, she held positions in the Government of Mexico, including Director of Social Programs in the Ministry of Finance, Advisor to the Under Minister of Finance, and Deputy Director in the Ministry of Economy. Gladys has been an associate professor at the Instituto Tecnologico Autonomo de Mexico (ITAM) and a Research Fellow at the University of Virginia. She holds a B.A in Economics from ITAM, and a Ph.D in Economics from the University of Virginia.
