Garry F. Barrett
Garry F. Barrett
Research Fellow

Garry Barrett is Professor of Economics at the University of Sydney. He completed his BEc(Hons) at the University of Sydney, and his MA and PhD at the University of British Columbia (1996). He has held visiting positions at the Australian National University, the Institute of Fiscal Studies, the University of Cambridge and the University of Technology Sydney. Garry’s research is focused on: (i) the measurement of inequality, poverty and welfare, (ii) the response of individuals and families to economic shocks, and (iii) the impact of public policies on wellbeing. Recent projects have analyzed the determinants of retirement, and participation in Income Support programs. His work has been published in journals such as Econometrica, Review of Economics and Statistics, Journal of Business and Economic Statistics, Econometrics Journal, Journal of Public Economics, Review of Income and Wealth, Canadian Journal of Economics and The Economic Record.

He joined IZA as a Research Fellow in January 2014.
