I am an economist concerned with planetary habitability. In particular, with the dynamics between economic growth, entrepreneurship, trade and technological innovation on the one hand, and their tensions with ecology, energy and equitable social outcomes on the other.

My most recent books on these deals with (1) the futility of green growth, sustainable entrepreneurship and degrowth to avert ecological crises, with (2) the economics of Artificial Intelligence, and with (3) the relationship between entrepreneurship and violent conflict.

I am currently writing a book on the economic dimensions of what can be described as the relative decline (and “collapse”) of global capitalism, extending my previous work on the Ossified Economy (see e.g. https://doi.org/10.1093/cje/beab042).

I joined IZA as a Research Fellow in January 2013.
