Queens College, CUNY
Natalia Candelo Londono is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at CUNY Queens College. Her research uses field experiments to investigate economic decision making by low-income populations in the U.S. and internationally. She uses this methodology to answer questions about factors that enhance or inhibit economic development and immigration. Her research integrates literature on identity, social exclusion and social networks with field experiments and economic analysis in order to explain and predict behavior.
Her work so far has focused on Latin America, including field experiments in Bogota, Buenos Aires, Caracas, Lima, Montevideo and San Jose de Costa Rica, in 11 rural villages in Mexico, and in Ocampo, Mexico, as well as in multiple low-income neighborhoods in the U.S.
The ultimate goal of her research is to identify and eventually testbed policies that can enhance economic development, the efficiency of immigration policies and the welfare of low-income populations.
She joined IZA as a Research Affiliate in February 2012.
