Matias Cortes
Matias Cortes
Research Fellow

Matias Cortes is an Associate Professor at the Department of Economics at York University in Toronto, and a Research Fellow at IZA, CReAM and RCEA. His primary research field is Labour Economics, with a focus on occupational mobility, technological change, wage inequality, the task content of occupations, and firm heterogeneity. His research also studies the relationship between aggregate business cycle conditions and individual-level human capital acquisition. He obtained his Bachelor in Economics from the Universidad de Costa Rica in 2005, and his PhD in Economics from the University of British Columbia in 2012. Between 2012 and 2017 he was a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) at the University of Manchester. He has been at York University since 2017. He joined IZA as a Research Fellow in July 2020.
