John Ifcher is an Associate Professor of Economics at the Leavey School of Business, Santa Clara University. He received his Ph.D. in economics from the University of California at Berkeley. He also received a M.P.A. degree from the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University and a B.S. in computer science and psychology from the University of Michigan.

His recent research focuses on decision making on behalf of others, subjective well-being, social welfare programs, and the impact of economics instruction. One recent paper investigates the impact of relative income on subjective well-being; another investigates the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on government- and market-attitudes. He has published articles in the American Economic Review; Experimental Economics; the Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization; the Journal of Economic Inequality; the Journal of Economic Psychology; the Journal of Happiness Studies; the Journal of Health Economics; the Journal of Neuroscience, Psychology, and Economics; and the Review of Economics of the Household.
