Daniel D. Schnitzlein

Daniel D. Schnitzlein is a Professor of Economics, in particular Labour Economics, at the University of Applied Labour Studies (HdBA). He earned his Ph.D. in Economics from Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg (FAU) as a member of the joint graduate program of FAU and the IAB Nuremberg. From 2014 to 2020, he served as an Assistant Professor of Economics, in particular Economics of Education, at the Institute of Labour Economics at Leibniz University Hannover. During the summer term of 2016, he was a guest professor with the Microeconomics Research Group at Humboldt University Berlin.

Daniel remains affiliated with the Institute of Labour Economics at Leibniz University Hannover as an apl. Professor and is an associated researcher with the Socio-Economic Panel (SOEP) Group at DIW Berlin. Since 2023, he also serves as treasurer on the executive board of the European Society for Population Economics (ESPE). His primary research interests are Labour Economics, the Economics of Education, and Applied Economics, with a particular focus on intergenerational mobility and social inequality. His research has been published in renowned international journals, including the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America (PNAS), Journal of Population Economics, Journal of Economic Psychology, and Labour Economics.

Daniel D. Schnitzlein joined IZA as a Research Affiliate in June 2019 and has been a Research Fellow since January 2025.
