Olena Nizalova is an Associate Professor (Senior Lecturer) at the University of Kent (UK). Her interests are in the fields of labor and health economics, economics of aging, and policy evaluation. Her major project focuses on the interplay between labor market and family related to the informal care provision to elderly parents in various countries: USA, European countries, Mexico, and Russia. Among other projects that she is working on are: (i) long-term impacts of youth unemployment on health, wellbeing and poverty, (ii) obesity and future use of information care in the UK, and (iii) inequality in non-wage benefits in Ukraine.

Nizalova's research has been supported by the Global Development Network, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, WEllcome Trust, UKAid (DFID), ESRC, MRC, and EC Horizon 2020. Nizalova received her undergraduate training from the Ukrainian State Maritime Technical University in 1992, her M.A. in Economics from the EERC MA Program in Economics at the National University “Kyiv Mohyla Academy” in 2000, and her Ph.D. from Michigan State University in 2006

She joined IZA as a Research Fellow in October 2009.
