Lowell J. Taylor is the H. John Heinz III Professor of Economics at the Heinz College, Carnegie Mellon University, where he has been on the faculty since 1990. He is also a Senior Fellow at NORC at the University of Chicago, where he is co-Principal Investigator of the 1997 National Longitudinal Study of Youth (NLSY97). He was recently Visiting Professor in the Economics Departments at the University of California, Berkeley. He previously served as a senior economist with President Clinton's Council of Economic Advisors.

Taylor works on a variety of topics in labor economics, demography, and health.

Taylor won the 2012 Annual Arrow Award from the International Health Economic Association for best paper in health economics (for “Unhealthy Insurance Markets: Search Frictions and the Cost and Quality of Health Insurance,” AER 2011). He won the 2004 Annual Health Care Research Award from the National Institute for Health Care (for “Physician Incentives in Health Maintenance Organization,” JPE 2004).

He is a three-time winner of the top teaching award at the Heinz College.

He earned an MS in Statistics and PhD in Economics, both from University of Michigan.

Taylor joined IZA as a Research Fellow in November 2011.
