Giovanni Sulis is an Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Cagliari, Sardinia, Italy.

He was awarded a Master in Economics from the University of Turin and a PhD in Economics from the University of Essex.

His research interests are in labor economics: he is currently working on the effects of labour market institutions (unions and employment protection), he also works on the effects of managerial practices in schools. He has previously worked on gender differentials and equilibrium search models; he has also written on migration and monopsony. His papers appeared in journals such as the Journal of Public Economics, European Economic Review, Economic Policy, Labour Economics and Journal of Population Economics.

He was visiting scholar at the University of Edinburgh, Georgetown University, the University of Hawaii, The University of New South Wales, and the Center for Labor Economics, University of California, Berkeley.

He joined IZA as a Research Fellow in April 2015.
