Ronald Bachmann is head of the research unit "Labour Markets, Education, Population" at RWI - Leibniz Institute for Economic Research in Essen, Germany, and professor of labour economics at the Düsseldorf Institute for Competition Economics (DICE) at Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf. He studied economics at the University of Cambridge (BA Economics), the London School of Economics and Political Science (MSc Economics), and Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (PhD in Economics).

His research focuses on labour economics, with a particular emphasis on labour market dynamics, the evaluation of labour market policies, and European labour markets.

He joined IZA as a Research Fellow in November 2010.
