Rocco Macchiavello is a Professor in Managerial Economics and Strategy at the London School of Economics. He is a Research Fellow of BREAD, CEPR and J-PAL, and a co-Editor of the Journal of Law, Economics and Organization. Rocco is an organisational economist, frequently working at the intersection with industrial organisation, development economics, and international trade, crime economics. He has studied how firms and markets operate when formal institutions are weak, as well as the role of relational contracts between firms support trade along domestic and global supply chains. He has also studied industrial relations in the global south, including gender discrimination, union movements, and the role of international buyers in fostering upgrading and better working conditions. Alongside his research agenda on supply chains, his current research focuses on organized crime, money laundering, and prison conditions. For his research, he frequently partners with large companies, government organisations, and NGOs.
