Michael C. Knaus is currently an Assistant Professor of Data Science in Economics at the University of Tübingen. Previously he obtained a PhD in Economics and Finance with the specialization in Econometrics from the University of St. Gallen where we also worked as a non-tenure track Assistant Professor.
Michael’s research interests are in applied econometrics with a focus on labor economic applications. In particular he is interested in the combination of machine learning methods and causal inference to improve estimation in observational studies and to allow for systematic search for effect heterogeneity and data-driven policy recommendations.
He joined IZA as a Research Affiliate in June 2017 and became a Research Fellow in December 2023.
