Monica Roman has completed a Ph.D. at the Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies (2001). Since 2007, she is a professor at the Academy's Department of Statistics and Econometrics and teaches Business Statistics, Econometrics and Quantitative Research Methods.

Monica Roman is interested in topics linking the fields of labor and demographic economics, regional studies and transition economies. Her research included empirical works about international migration, household analysis, time use, education and development, regional development, research and higher education.

She joined IZA as a Research Fellow in August 2011.
