Mircea Trandafir is an associate professor in the Department of Business and Economics at the University of Southern Denmark. Before joining SDU, he was a member of the Department of Economics at Université de Sherbrooke. He received his B.A. in Finance and Banking from the Academy of Economic Studies (Bucharest, Romania) in 2000, his M.A. in Economics from Central European University (Budapest, Hungary) in 2002, and his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Maryland, College Park in 2009. His primary research interests are in applied microeconomics, particularly labor and health economics. His research interests can generally be placed into at least one of the following three areas: family formation, returns to medical treatments (especially those administered at childbirth or during childhood), and immigration.

He joined IZA as a Research Fellow in November 2014.
