Deepti Goel joined Pitzer College in 2023, having previously taught in India for about fifteen years. She is an applied micro-economist whose research lies at the intersection of labor and development economics and falls into two broad themes: social identities and the efficacy of public expenditure. The first explores how identities such as gender, caste, and immigrant status influence economic and non-economic outcomes, including notions of self-worth. The second measures the impacts of government programs and uncovers the mechanisms through which those impacts are mediated, with a view to improving the effectiveness of public expenditure.
She joined IZA as a Research Affiliate in March 2008 and became a Research Fellow in December 2011.
