Sergio Firpo is Instituto Unibanco Professor of Economics at Insper in São Paulo, Brazil. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California at Berkeley in 2003. He was Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of British Columbia, UBC, (2003-2006) and at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, PUC-Rio, (2004-2008), and Associate Professor at the Sao Paulo School of Economics (2008-2015) before joining Insper in January 2016. His main research interests are microeconometrics, policy evaluation, labor economics, development economics and empirical political economy. He was member of the Standing Committee of the Latin American Chapter of the Econometric Society between 2007-2016 and the editor of the Brazilian Review of Econometrics between 2007-2010.

He joined IZA as a Research Fellow in October 2009.
