João Pereira dos Santos is an Assistant Professor at ISEG – University of Lisbon, and an IZA – Institute for Labor Economics and GLO Global Labor Organization research affiliate.
He is an applied microeconomist with research interests in public, labor, urban economics, and economic history. His work has been published in outlets such as the European Economic Review, Journal of Urban Economics, and Journal of Economic Geography.
He was a researcher at the School of Economics and Finance at Queen Mary University of London with an Horizon Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Postdoctoral Fellowship, and an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Nova SBE and Nova School of Law. In 2021, he obtained his PhD from Nova SBE. Before, he was a visiting student at Harvard University during the spring semester of 2019 with a scholarship FCT-Fulbright and completed the Advanced Studies Program in International Economic Policy Research of the Kiel Institute for the World Economy in 2016. Between 2019 and 2021, João served as a technical advisor for Economic Affairs in the cabinet of the Secretary of State Assistant to the Portuguese Prime-Minister.
João joined IZA as a Research Affiliate in September 2022.
