With a degree in German Philology, French Studies and Educational Science from the University of Bonn (1989), Martin started his professional career at Kaufhof Warenhaus AG as Director of Personnel Development for Young Professionals and Assistant to the Board of Management. Since 1996, he has held various personnel management positions at Deutsche Post DHL, as Head of Human Resources for Deutsche Post Consult until 1999, as Director of Human Resources for Deutsche Post Euro Express until 2002, and as Director of Human Resources for Deutsche Post Global Mail prior to his position at IZA. Since February 2006 Martin has been Director of Administration at Institute for the Study of Labor GmbH (IZA). Additionally, since September 2014 he serves as Managing Director of the Foundation for Environmental Economics and Sustainability (SUN). As of March 2016 he represents both IZA and the newly founded Behavior and Inequality Research Institute (briq) as Chief Financial Officer.
