Prof. Dr. Rüdiger Soltwedel is head of the Research Department of Regional Economics at the Kiel Institute of World Economics. He got his diploma at the University of Saarbrücken and his doctorate at the Kiel University. He worked as a Counselor for Structural Policy at the Economics and Statistics Department, OECD, Paris in the early 1990s. His current research interest, apart from labor market issues, focus on the spatial dimension of European integration and competition policy and regulation issues of the liberalization of network infrastructure industries. He was director of the research program (1992 – 1997) on "The Social Market Economy, Challenges and Conceptual Response" sponsored by the Bertelsmann Foundation.



Among his more recent publications are "Employment Problems in West Germany - The Role of Institutions, Labor Law and Government Intervention?" in the Carnegie-Rochester Conference Series on Public Policy (1988);
