Anne Morrison Piehl is a Professor of Economics at Rutgers University, where she is Director of the Program in Criminal Justice, and a Faculty Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research. Her recent work has analyzed the causes and consequences of the prison population boom, determinants of criminal sentencing outcomes, and the connections between immigration and crime, both historically and currently. Dr. Piehl is currently serving on two committees of the national Research Council of the National Academy of Sciences, the standing Committee on Law and Justice and the ad hoc committee on the Causes and Consequences of High Rates of Incarceration. She received her A.B. from Harvard University and her Ph.D. from Princeton University.

She joined IZA as a Research Fellow in November 2012.
