Stephan is a Ramón y Cajal Researcher at the UPF Barcelona School of Management and affiliated with the Centre for Economic Performance at LSE and the Cluster of Excellence "The Politics of Inequality" at the University of Konstanz. He received his PhD from the LSE in 2017. His research interests lie in the areas of Economic History, Labour Economics, Urban Economics, International Trade, and Political Economy.

Stephan joined IZA as a Research Affiliate in March 2026.
