Matthias Giesecke

Matthias Giesecke is a visiting researcher in the division “labor markets, education and population” at RWI, Germany. He studied economics at the Free University Berlin and received his PhD (Dr. rer. pol.) from the University of Duisburg-Essen in 2015. During his doctoral studies, he was awarded a three-year scholarship of the Ruhr Graduate School in Economics.

His research interests are labor economics in connection to social security, in particular retirement and pension incentives, labor supply of older workers, the relationship between mortality expectations and retirement decisions, and the dynamics of earnings.

Matthias Giesecke joined IZA as a Research Affiliate in July 2016 and became an IZA Research Fellow in November 2021.
