Phoebe W. Ishak

Phoebe W. Ishak is a post-doctoral researcher at Aix-Marseille School of Economics (AMSE). Prior to joining AMSE in 2021, she was a postdoc at Freie Universität Berlin (FU Berlin) and the John F. Kennedy Institute for North American Studies (JFKI). She holds a PhD in Economics from Universität Hamburg and an M.Sc. in the Economics of the Middle East from Philipps-Universität Marburg. During her PhD, she had a research stay at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.

Phoebe’s research interests include development economics, gender & family economics, labor economics, and political economy. Her research is mainly focused on the economies of developing countries especially in Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. Her work has been published (or forthcoming) in Economic Development and Cultural Change, Energy Economics, and Economics & Politics.

She has worked as consultant for the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for West Africa (UNESCWA) and had an internship at the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Phoebe Ishak joined IZA as a Research Affiliate in March 2022.
