Chantal Pezold

Pre-doctoral Research Associate

Chantal Pezold joined IZA as a Pre-doctoral Research Associate in September 2022. Now based at MIT, she works under the supervision of Simon Jäger and Daron Acemoglu. Her primary research interests are in labor economics and political economy, with a focus on labor market institutions and technological change. Guided by these interests, her research explores two main themes. First, what factors drive the formation of labor unions, with a focus on workers' outside options in the labor market and the electoral representation of low-wage workers. Second, she studies how unions, and other forms of worker representation, impact the choice between labor-saving and labor-augmenting technological innovations.

Chantal obtained a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Economics from Humboldt University Berlin. As part of her Master's, she spent the 2021/2022 academic year as a DAAD graduate exchange student in Economics and Mathematics at Harvard University and MIT, while working at the Social Economics Lab under the supervision of Stefanie Stantcheva.
