Bas ter Weel is managing director at SEO Amsterdam Economics and professor of economics at the University of Amsterdam.

Previously he was deputy director at the CPB Netherlands Bureau for Economic Policy Analysis and professor of economics at Maastricht University. Before that he headed the departments of international economics and labour and education at the CPB. Before joining the CPB he worked at Maastricht University as an assistant professor and at the Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM) as an economist.

His research focuses on empirical and theoretical issues in the areas of education, labour economics and the economics of innovation and new technology.

He joined IZA as a Research Fellow in February 2005.
