Patrick Premand is a Senior Economist in the Development Impact Evaluation Department (DIME) at the World Bank, where he leads the social protection & jobs research program. He conducts applied research on Poverty, Social Protection, Risk and Resilience; Economic Inclusion, Entrepreneurship and Jobs for the poor; as well as Human Capital and Early Childhood Development. He studies the effectiveness of policies to achieve the sustainable development goals, often embedding experiments in large-scale interventions in close collaboration with practitioners. He previously held various positions at the World Bank, including in the Africa Social Protection & Jobs group, Africa Human Development Economics Unit, Human Development Chief Economist’s Office, and Latin America and Caribbean Poverty Unit. He holds a Licence in Economics from the University of Lausanne and a DPhil in Economics from Oxford University.
