Guy Laroque is head of the Macroeconomics Laboratory at CREST, the research center of the French statistical agency INSEE. He has worked at INSEE for most of his career, alternating between operational jobs (associated with building the national accounts and short run forecasting) and research or teaching positions.

Laroque’s research revolves around macroeconomic issues, with contributions to theory, econometric techniques and applications. A large part of his published work deals with short run macroeconomic equilibrium and unemployment: monetary theory and the liquidity trap ; equilibria with quantity rationing, temporary equilibria and the dynamics of inventories ; consumer demand for durable goods. Studies in econometric theory (estimation with simulation, polynomial cointegration) are linked to the needs of empirical applications (estimation of (non linear) macroeconomic models with quantity rationing, inventories, models of commodity prices). Recently Laroque has looked into the economic consequences of the welfare state and its impact on labor supply and fertility behavior, with applications on French data using structural microeconometric models.

Laroque has been editor of Econometrica (1992-1996) and president of the Econometric Society (2002). He is a member of Academia Europea and a foreign honorary member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

He joined IZA as a Research Fellow in September 2004.
