Forschungsinteressen

David L. Dickinson is a Professor of Economics and Senior Research Fellow at CERPA (Center for Economic Research and Policy Analysis) at Appalachian State University, and a Research Affiliate at the Economic Science Institute (Chapman University). His research is in a variety of areas using experimental/behavioral economics methodology. Current research of his continues to include labor and personnel economics topics: discrimination, punishment and reward in public goods environments, and the effects of sleep deprivation on decision-making. David earned his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Arizona in 1997.

David was an early adopter of experimental economics methodology to study labor market issues, including on- and off-the-job labor/leisure choices, work team incentives, and incentive effects of different dispute resolution mechanisms. His current research program in “sleep and decision making” has broad application and includes implications for labor markets where shift work dictates differential levels of sleepiness across employees. His research has been regularly supported over the years by several distinct National Science Foundation grants. His publications have appeared in Nature Human Behaviour, Games and Economic Behavior, European Economic Review, Journal of Labor Economics, Journal of Public Economics, Industrial and Labor Relations Review, Experimental Economics, Journal of Public Economics, PLOS ONE, and the Journal of Sleep Research, to name a few.

He joined IZA as a Research Fellow in November 2014.
