Manuel Fernández Sierra is an assistant professor at the Economics Department at Universidad de los Andes.

Manuel's research interests are in the fields of labour, development and health economics. Within these areas, he has worked on the drivers of earnings inequality in Latin American countries, the effect of advances in information and communication technologies on the wage distribution, structural determinants of unequal access to health services in Colombia, and the effect of competition among insurers on the quality of healthcare.

Manuel received his DPhil in Economics at the University of Oxford in 2018, and an MPhil in Economics at Oxford in 2014. Prior to his doctoral studies, he worked at the Office of the Chief Economist for Latin America at the World Bank.

He joined IZA as a Research Affiliate in October 2018 and became a Research Fellow in December 2023.
