IZA Discussion Paper Series - Submission Guidelines
(1) Who May Submit?
The IZA Discussion Paper Series is open exclusively to IZA Network members (Research Fellows and Affiliates).
(2) What Topics Are Accepted?
Submissions must focus on labor economics or a closely related field.
(3) Can I Still Submit My Paper Elsewhere?
We place no restrictions on simultaneous submission to other working paper series. However, we do not accept papers already published in a journal or book.
Important: Some journals do not accept papers previously released as discussion papers. It is your responsibility to ensure that submission to the IZA DP Series does not create copyright conflicts, as papers cannot be withdrawn once they are online.
(4) When Should I Submit?
While you may submit at any stage, the ideal time is often when you first submit to a journal or conference. This allows the Discussion Paper to benefit from community feedback without duplicating the final, published version.
Please note that IZA DPs are permanent records: we do not update, replace, or delete papers once they have been circulated. Therefore, we advise against submitting at a very preliminary stage.
(5) How Do I Submit?
All submissions must be made online using the submission form in the member area of the IZA website.
(6) What Are The Formatting Requirements?
- File Format: We accept PDF format only. Because we generate a custom cover page, please ensure the body of your paper starts on a new page.
- Paper Details: Your submission must include an abstract (max. 900 characters including spaces), keywords, JEL classification, and all author affiliations.
- Contact Info: Provide the email address of the corresponding author. Unless specified otherwise, we will list contact details for the submitting author only.
(7) How Are Papers Circulated?
IZA Discussion Papers reach a wide audience via:
-
Platforms: The IZA website, RePEc, and SSRN.
-
Promotion: E-mail alerts to thousands of subscribers and highlights in the IZA Newsroom or social media.
-
Note: The series carries an ISSN (2365-9793) but does not issue DOIs.
To help us promote your work, we invite you to include a non-technical summary or a draft social media post with your submission. Please note that providing these materials does not guarantee promotion; selection for these channels is at the discretion of the editorial team and subject to current capacity.
