Andreas Steinmayr is an assistant professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Munich (LMU). He completed his Ph.D. in Economics and Finance at the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland, in February 2014. During and after his Ph.D. he spent two years as a visiting scholar at the Harris School of Public Policy Studies at the University of Chicago. He is also affiliated with the Kiel Institute for the World Economy.

His research interests are in applied microeconometrics, labor economics, economics of migration, and economics of education. In particular he is interested in the consequences of migration for migrant sending countries and in interaction effects between sending and receiving countries.

He joined IZA as a Research Affiliate in April 2015.
