We are deeply sorry that Tuomas Pekkarinen passed away on November 29, 2022 at age 50.
Until his death Tuomas Pekkarinen served as a Research Professor at the VATT Institute for Economic Research in Helsinki and as an Adjunct Professor at Aalto University School of Business. In his earlier career Tuomas Pekkarinen held positions at Nuffield College, Oxford and at the Institute for Labour Market Policy Evaluation in Uppsala, Sweden. Furthermore he was a visiting scholar at Boston University in 2009-2010 and at the London School of Economics in 2016-2017. As a member of the Swedish Labour Market Council (2015-2018) he engaged in labor policy advice.
Tuomas received his Ph.D. in 2003 from the European University Institute in Florence. His main areas of interest were wage determination, discrimination, and the economics of education.
He joined IZA as a Research Affiliate in April 2003 and became a Research Fellow in May 2008.
