Joachim von Braun is Professor emeritus for Economic and Technological change at Bonn University, in the Center for Development Research (ZEF). He was a founding Director of ZEF. His research is on economic development, food nutrition and agriculture, bioeconomy, resource and environmental economics, science and technology policy. von Braun is President of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences of the Vatican, and member of German National Academy of Science Leopoldina, the German Academy of Engineering, the Academy of Arts and Science of North Rhine -Westphalia, the African Academy of Sciences, The World Academy, other academies, and the International Science Council; Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences; member of the Advisory Board for the UN Food Systems Summits; Vice President of the German NGO WHH (Welthungerhilfe). He was Director General of IFPRI, the International Food Policy Research Institute in Washington DC and Chair of the Scientific Advisory Group for the UN Food Systems Summit, Co-Chair of the German Bioeconomy Council and of the Bioeconomy Summits.
