Badi H. Baltagi is a Distinguished Professor of Economics at Syracuse University and part-time chair at the University of Leicester. He was previously Professor of Economics and holder of the George Summey, Jr. Professor Chair in Liberal Arts at Texas A&M University. He studied economics at the University of Pennsylvania (Ph.D., 1979) and statistics at Carnegie-Mellon (M.S., 1975). He was co-editor of Economics Letters (2011-2021), served as co-editor of Empirical Economics from (1999-2018), served as replication editor of Journal of Applied Econometrics (2003-2018). He served as an associate editor of Journal of Econometrics (1999-2018). He is on the board of editors of Econometric Reviews.
His research interests cover a broad range of topics in econometrics, especially panel data, spatial panels, specification testing, simultaneous equations, seemingly unrelated regressions, technical change, airlines efficiency, cigarette, and liquor consumption, rational addiction, gasoline demand in the OECD, estimation of wage curves for Germany, gravity models for trade, foreign direct investment, nursing labor supply.
He has published in numerous leading journals including Econometrica, Journal of Political Economy, Journal of Econometrics, Econometric Theory, International Economic Review, Review of Economics and Statistics, Journal of Business and Economic Statistics, Journal of Applied Econometrics, Econometric Reviews, Econometrics Journal, and European Economic Review. He is the author/editor of several textbooks including a graduate textbook on panel data in its 6th edition and another textbook on econometrics published by Springer. He edited the Oxford Handbook of Panel Data, published by Oxford University Press.
Badi H. Baltagi joined IZA as a Research Fellow in January 2002.
