Michael C. Knaus is doing his PhD in Economics and Finance at the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland. He chose the specialization track Econometrics and is working as a research assistant at the Swiss Institute for Empirical Economic Research. Previously he obtained Bachelor and Master degrees in Economics from the University of Hohenheim, Germany.
Michael’s research interests are in applied econometrics with a focus on labor, health, education and sports economics. In particular he is interested in the combination of machine learning methods and causal inference to improve estimation in observational studies and to allow for systematic search for effect heterogeneity.
He joined IZA as a Research Affiliate in June 2017
