Peter Bergman is an Assistant Professor of Economics and Education at Teachers College, Columbia University and a Senior Research Associate at the Community College Research Center. He earned his Ph.D. in economics from the University of California, Los Angeles and his BA from the University of California, Berkeley.

Much of his research uses field experiments to test low-cost, scalable interventions designed to improve financial and education outcomes for low-income families. He has also conducted large-scale studies on reducing school segregation, improving access to financial aid, using predictive analytics to track students in higher education, and assessing cream-skimming in systems of school choice.
Previously, Dr. Bergman was a New York City Teaching Fellow and a middle school special education teacher.
He joined IZA as a Research Affiliate in May 2017.
