Alex Smith is an Associate Professor of Economics at West Point who will be visiting Universitat Pompeu Fabra for the 2023-2024 academic year. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Virginia and a B.A. in Mathematics and Economics from Williams College.
Alex’s research interests include labor economics, public economics, and the economics of education, with a particular emphasis on the impact of childhood interventions on social mobility. His work has been published in the Quarterly Journal of Economics, American Economic Journal: Economic Policy, and Journal of Human Resources, among other academic journals.
Alex joined IZA as a Research Fellow in May 2023.
