Jing Liu is an Associate Professor in Education Policy and the Director of the Center for Educational Data Science and Innovation at the University of Maryland College Park.

He earned his Ph.D. in Economics of Education from Stanford University in 2018. His research engages with critical education policy issues including student absenteeism, exclusionary discipline, educator’s labor market, and higher education. His recent interest focuses on how AI can improve teaching and learning and how school systems can prepare students for an AI-driven labor market. He recently received the Early Career Award from the Association for Education Finance and Policy and the Exemplary Researcher Award from the University of Maryland.

Jing Liu joined IZA as a Research Affiliate in August 2021 and named a Research Fellow in 2025.
