Livia Menezes is an Assistant Professor in Economics at the University of Birmingham, UK.

She is an applied microeconomist and her research focuses on the analysis of public policy in the areas of crime, education, health and labour.

She is currently working on an overarching project on the cost of crime in Brazil. To date, the project has investigated the effect of exposure to violence on infant health, on human capital accumulation, on house prices, and on political outcomes.

She is also interested in investigating measures to prevent crime, in particular interventions targeting vulnerable children and young people. She has been a co-investigator in a project funded by Youth Endowment Fund that evaluates an intervention providing restorative justice mentors to children who have displayed violent behaviour or committed a violent crime in the UK (REMEDI).

Livia received her PhD in Economics from the University of Leicester, UK.

She joined IZA as a Research Affiliate in December 2021.
