Elena Stancanelli is a senior researcher in economics with France National Research Center (CNRS), and as such she is working at the the Paris School of Economics. She received her PhD in economics from the European University Institute in Florence in 1994 and her “Habilitation à diriger des Recherches” (HdR) in economics from Paris 1 University in 2007. She has worked as an academic in France, Italy, the UK, Denmark and the Netherlands. She also worked for five years, as an economist (grade A3) at the OECD, Employment, Education and Social Affairs Division, and as Vice-Director of the forecasting unit of OFCE, Sciences-Po, Paris.
Her current research interests are in the area of applied microeconomics, with focus on conflict economics, gender, retirement, and time use. She is associate editor of the Review of the Economics of the Household. She is also associated editor of the Journal of Family and Economic Issues. She has published in leading economics journals like the American Economic Review Papers and Proceedings, Journal of Labor Economics and the Journal of Public Economics.

She joined IZA as a Research Fellow in April 2012.
