Anna Vignoles

Anna Vignoles is Director of the Leverhulme Trust.

Before she was Professor of Education at the University of Cambridge in the Faculty of Education. She also was a Deputy Director of the Centre for the Analysis of Youth Transitions and the Centre for the Economics of Education. She is a Research Fellow at the Institute for Fiscal Studies and a Visiting Professor at the Institute of Education.

Previously Anna was Professor of Economics of Education at the Institute Of Education and a Research Fellow at the London School of Economics.

Her research interests include issues pertaining to equity in education, school choice, markets in education and the economic value of schooling. She is the economist member of the NHS Pay Review Body and has advised a range of government departments, including the Department for Education, the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills and HM Treasury. She has provided advice to the Browne Review of Higher Education, the House of Commons Education and Skills Committee investigation of higher education funding, the House of Lords Economic Affairs Select Committee, as part of their inquiry into education and training opportunities for young people, and Lord Leitch’s Review of Skills.

She was the Principal Investigator on a recent ESRC/ TLRP project Widening Participation in Higher Education: A Quantitative Analysis, which investigated issues around widening access to Higher Education. She has published widely, and a selection of her key publications is listed below.

She joined IZA as a Research Fellow in September 2008.
