Thomas DeLeire is professor of public policy. His research focuses on labor and health economics. From 2014 to 2016, he was a Senior Advisor in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. His most recent work has comprised an evaluation of recent expansions to Wisconsin’s health insurance programs for low-income families. DeLeire has twice taken leave from his university appointments to work in government. From 2005 to 2007, he was a senior analyst at the Congressional Budget Office, and from 2002 to 2003, he was senior economist for labor, health, and education for the Council of Economic Advisers. He received his A.B. from Princeton University and his Ph.D. in economics from Stanford University. DeLeire's research focuses on labor economics and health economics.

He joined IZA as a Research Fellow in December 2008.
