Sebastian Buhai is a research economist with main interests in Microeconometrics, Labour Economics, Empirical Industrial Organization, and Applied Microeconomics more generally. He holds PhD and MPhil degrees in Economics from the Tinbergen Institute and Erasmus University Rotterdam, and simultaneous BSc in Sciences (Mathematics/ Theoretical Physics) and BA in Social Sciences (Economics/ Law/ Political Sciences) degrees from University College Utrecht, Utrecht University. His current principal affiliations are with the Swedish Institute for Social Research (SOFI) of Stockholm University, the Centre for Research in Economics and Management (NIPE) at University of Minho, and the Center for Economics Research and its Applications (CEPREMAP) in Paris, while previously he has held various long or shorter term positions with other leading universities or research institutes from, inter alia, Italy, US, Denmark, the Netherlands and UK. Dr. Buhai has investigated, among others, human capital accumulation and dynamics of worker careers; bargaining, rent-sharing, and wage formation; persistent earnings and employment disparities; firm performance, investment in tangibles/ intangibles, and employee welfare — with his research output being published in scientific journals such as Econometrica, the Journal of Business and Economic Statistics, Scandinavian Journal of Economics, or the Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control. He joined IZA as a Research Affiliate in April 2023.
