Álvaro A. Novo received his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, United States, in 2001. In the same year, he joined Banco de Portugal, where he is an Economist in the division of Structural Studies of the Research Department. He also holds a teaching position at Universidade Lusófona. His research interests span labor economics topics such as unemployment insurance and reemployment outcomes (wages and tenure), active labor market policies effectiveness, job destruction and worker reallocation, and wage mobility. He has published his research in international journals such as Labour Economics, Econometric Theory, Economics Letters, Empirical Economics, Oxford Bulletin of Economics and Statistics, and the Portuguese Economic Journal.

He joined IZA as a Research Fellow in September 2009.
