Massimo Anelli is Associate Professor at Bocconi University, Department of Social and Political Sciences. He has obtained his PhD in Economics in 2015 from University of California, Davis. Prior to starting his PhD, he worked at Fondazione Rodolfo DeBenedetti, where he is currently Research Fellow. He is also Research Fellow at CESifo and Research Associate at Dondena Centre for Research on Social Dynamics and Public Policy.

His research interests are in Labor Economics, the Economics of Education, the Economics of Gender and Migration, Automation, Voting and Fertility. His work focuses on the returns to higher education quality, the determinants of the gender gap in the labor market, the effects of classroom gender interaction, of gender of siblings, foreign peers on academic outcomes in higher education and brain drain.

Massimo joined IZA as a Research Affiliate in January 2015 and became a Research Fellow in December 2023.
