Matteo Cervellati is professor of Economics at the University of Bologna. He received his Ph.D. in 2005 at the Department of Economics at Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona.

His research activity include the study of long-term development and human capital formation, political economics, theory and empirics of democratization and institutions, demography and behavioral economics.

He joined IZA as a Research Affiliate in March 2005 and became a Research Fellow in May 2008.
