Nico Pestel is a Senior Research Associate and Team Leader at the Institute of Labor Economics (IZA) in Bonn. He co-coordinates IZA's program area "Environment, Health, and Labor Markets". He obtained his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Cologne in 2013.

Nico is an applied economist with research interests in labor and public economics as well as in political economy and environmental economics. He is particularly interested in the labor market effects of public policies, the relationship between household formation and inequality as well as the effects of environmental conditions on worker productivity and health.

Nico joined IZA as a Resident Research Affiliate under the IZA Scholarship Program in 2009. He became a Research Associate in 2013, a Senior Research Associate in 2016 and a Team Leader in 2019.
