Holger Bonin is Scientific Director at the Institut für Höhere Studien/Institute for Advanced Studies (IHS) in Vienna.

He was Research Director of IZA from July 2016 - June 2023 and Professor of Labor Market and Social Policy at the University of Kassel.

Holger’s empirical research focuses on the impact of digital progress and demographic changes on employment and working life. He also evaluate the effects of social policy measures, in particular in the realms of active labor market policy and family policy.

Besides his research, Holger is very committed to academic policy consulting. He is a member of the board of experts of the Skilled Worker Monitoring System established by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs. Holger has been a member of the Commission of Experts for Research and Innovation established by the German Federal Government (2019-2022), and served in the Independent Expert Commission for the Second Gender Equality Report of the Federal Government. He is elected member of the Economic Policy, Social Policy and Population Economics Committees within the German Economic Association.
