Giorgio Di Pietro is an Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Loyola in Seville. Previously he was a Senior Researcher at the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC) between September 2019 and August 2025. Before that he was a Reader in the Economics of Education at the Westminster Business School in London. He obtained his PhD from the University of Roskilde in 1999.

His main research interests are empirical issues in the field of the economics of education. Among others, he has published in journals such as Journal of Population Economics, Economics Letters, Economics of Education Review, Education, Finance & Policy, Regional studies, Empirical Economics and Applied Economics.

Giorgio Di Pietro joined IZA as a Research Fellow in April 2009.
